Welcome to our family farm! We are a small homestead in southwestern Arkansas outside of the town of Glenwood. Our farm is family run by three people, Scott Chisling, Brenda
Chisling
and Brett Chisling, thus our logo is the three C's entwined as one. We are
committed to grow
organically, using environmentally sound farming practices and to walk lighter
on the earth. Our farm is run with an eye towards making the finest quality
foods and products for us to eat with pride. Everything we make here is used by
us first and foremost and our excess is sold to help keep the farm self
sustaining. We are not
driven by profit motive nor do we cut corners to make a
fast dollar. Our animals are raised with love and attention
with room to run
free and enjoy life. In many ways we are the kind of farm from yesteryear that
has been driven out by corporate agriculture and "fast food" farming. Because we
are not profit oriented we can afford to do things our way. I am a disabled
veteran of the Armed Forces and served in Desert Storm and hold a degree in
Biology from Saint Leo University. We moved to Arkansas to pursue our dreams of
living self sufficiently and as good stewards of our land and animals. Often as
I spoke with people about the problems facing our environment, I found that
people were overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. They felt the problems were
too big and they were to small to make a difference. They would shrug and then
do nothing about it and hope someone else would fix it for them. I decided that
change starts with a single person willing to do more than talk, shrug and walk
away. Change begins when a single person takes a stand and others around him
begin to notice. It is my hope that raising my children in this manner will help
plant a seed that one person can and does make a difference, but only when he
stands for what he or she believes in!
To provide the best quality foods and products for our family and neighbors using all natural and low environmental impact methods, as well as teaching people how to become more self reliant
and to walk lighter on the earth. We strive every day for self reliance
in our lives, to live simply and to leave our land in better shape than when we received it. The American Indians had a saying "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." and
I try to do everything with this in mind. You can help do
the same by supporting
local agriculture and buying foods grown by local farmers. When you buy locally grown foods you are taking the first steps
in helping change the world one person at a time. Did you know that the foods you buy in the grocery store are trucked on average 1500 miles
by tractor trailer?
That estimate is only for food grown in the United States. When you look at
imports from Mexico, Asia, South America and Canada the distance skyrockets. They are grown and produced in food factories by huge agricorps.
The animals are penned in stalls so small they cannot turn around and pumped full of antibiotics
to stave off disease from the unhealthy conditions
and growth hormones in an
attempt to get them to market size as quickly as possible. If you buy locally you help keep your money here locally, spent in our local businesses. You
can also aid in breaking the chain of pollution involved in trucking foods vast distances to get them to the supermarket. A single person can make a choice that makes a difference in the world. For example, by
purchasing our all natural beeswax candles, you are helping the world by not burning
Paraffin based candles. Paraffin is a petroleum based product and that petroleum comes
primarily from the middle east. Ultimately that candle you burn ends up putting your hard earned dollar into a sheikhs pocket overseas.
Our locally
made beeswax candles are all natural, and handmade from wax that has been created by
the bees here on the farm. Our bees have worked hard to pollinate local plants and crops, then created locally made honey.
By purchasing from us your money supports the local economy. By working together
our efforts do make positive changes in the world. One person can make a
difference in the world simply by shopping wisely. I am proud of the work we do
on our farm
and know that our efforts will continue to make positive changes every day.
We hope you will consider becoming one of our customers.
Unlike
a traditional store we do not have set inventory. Our production is based upon
the natural cycles of the seasons and our animals are allowed the same luxury of
the seasons.
Our animals enjoy the quiet time in the winter and are
as glad
for a break from the fast pace of spring, summer and fall as we are. We don't force our
chickens to lay through winter through artificial heating and lighting. Instead
we chose breeds known to lay naturally through winter so we usually have enough
eggs all year round to sell. Springtime is the time for baby goats and that is when
we sell them, no artificial insemination is used here. Honey is available in
Summer and early fall. Our goat's milk is available from spring through fall and
then our does get a break during winter. The cycles are there for a reason. When
we break them or force our animals to produce unnaturally, we feel we are
failing to live up to our beliefs. We do have fresh basil, thyme, dill, chives
and mint available year round as we grow them inside. We recommend calling ahead to make sure the product you want is available. We often sell out of certain products quickly and we only sell the excess that we can't eat ourselves. Many of our customers place a request for a monthly, weekly, or bi-weekly
orders and we can often arrange to meet you in Glenwood. We also offer workshops on dressing rabbits and chickens,
canning goods, making cheese, making jerky, candle making, soap making, organic gardening methods and many others.

products directly from our farm to our friends and neighbors. We take great
pride in what we make and do here. We hope you will as well.
